Sending text messages
The most basic and common way to communicate with customers on WhatsApp.
How to send a text message
- Open a conversation in the Chat section
- Click the message input field at the bottom
- Type your message
- Press Enter or click the Send button
Requirements
- The conversation must be within the 24-hour window (customer messaged you within the last 24 hours)
- If outside the window, you must use a template message instead
Text formatting
WhatsApp supports basic formatting:

Emojis
Click the 😊 emoji icon in the message input to browse and insert emojis. You can also type emoji shortcodes or use your system emoji picker.
Multi-line messages
Press Shift + Enter to add a new line without sending the message.
Message limits
- Maximum 4,096 characters per text message
- No limit on number of messages per conversation (within the window)
Tips
- Keep it concise — Short messages get better responses
- Use formatting — Bold key information for readability
- Add emojis — Makes messages feel friendly and personal
- Break long messages — Send multiple short messages instead of one wall of text
- Proofread — Messages can't be edited after sending
